CVT (Church Vocational Training)

Course Overview:

This is a study programme that is designed to produce Church leaders who can lead, plant, or hold significant leadership responsibility in different spheres of Church life.

It is a church ‘vocation’ school – it’s aim is to equip and release people who have a calling to serve primarily in building the local church.

The course is run over a three year period, with four compulsory ‘block’ teaching weeks, held in a camp setting, where all of the students from around NZ gather. The programme is designed in a rotational manner, enabling new students to join each year, whereby all can learn and grow together. Each fourth year group graduates at a ceremony that is held during that week.

This course has both academic learning and practical experience components. Being a tertiary study level programme, there will be three assignments per year which include readings, book reviews, essays and exegesis of scripture, each being assessed in written or oral form. If for some reason there are questions around an individual’s ability to meet any of these requirements, yet there is a strong sense of calling to the ministry, the availability of a bridging programme can be discussed with the Course Deans or Principal.

Course Content:

The content of the course is divided into three sections:

  1. Thinking as a Leader: developing a Biblical and theological frame of reference. This will involve studying theology, culture and developing Biblical skills.
  2. Living as a Leader: developing our inner life, character and relationship with God. We lead out of who we are!
  3. Acting as a Leader: developing the leadership and ministry skills to do the job of local church leadership

Expectations:

  • Attendance at the annual block course held at El Rancho camp, Waikanae.
  • Completion of 3 assignments during the year. Attendance at both Equip courses each year in either Auckland, Palmerston North or Christchurch
  • Mentoring by a local church leader
  • Involvement in hands on ministry at their local church
  • Payment of annual course fee of $250 for an individual or couple. (In recognition of the greater cost to those flying in, or traveling long distances to the block course, there is a subsidy available on this course fee. Please apply to Donald or Linda)
  • Payment of $271 per adult for accommodation and food at El Rancho camp. Both fees to be paid before the block course starts.
  • To graduate all the above components need to be completed at a level that is appropriate for each individual student.

We invite you as a church leader to consider those in your church who would benefit from participation in this course. Initial admittance is through you, and your local church leaders’ recommendation, which needs to then be directed to the course Principal, who is also able to answer any other queries you might have. Looking forward to partnering with you as we endeavour to raise the next generation of Church Leaders!
